On Meditation
Part of my daily practice has often included meditation in forms of focus, breathing, and harnessing thought into a centralized zone. This practice has even led me to visualize simple geometric shapes. In the same breath, I have a deep interest in looking at the world and the marks that remain because of nature or our human existence. Finding imagery in places that are often overlooked or considered repulsive intrigue me so much that I have a desire to make them beautiful. This could be mildew, mold, hair, or pollen residue. All of it exists as a substrate for me to begin my work.
Most of the larger works in this collection are film photographs taken with a large format camera, scanned, manipulated, and printed digitally. Some involve layered imagery. Others I’ve created with my DSLR or even cell phone camera. I will never let a potential image pass me by, especially when I don’t have a camera of choice.
