Mastery of the Mile
This work exhibits the habitual, ritualistic, and obsessive nature of being a marathon runner, without shying away from the gross or grueling parts. A few years prior to creating this work, I had been a competitive athlete for a majority of my life. Running became my obsession when I no longer played team sports. Using my body as a tool to make marks in the before and after of scheduled runs, recording my activity through video and photography, and document the insane training with maps and record keeping, the work exhibits like a series of artifacts that hold the residue and journey of the effort.
